Enhanced Safety at the Crossroads of Neue-Rieser-Straße and Old Rieser-Straße
In the heart of Passau's Schalding district, preparations are underway for a significant upgrade to traffic safety. Construction work for a new sidewalk on the right bank of the Danube is scheduled to begin in summer 2025.
At the intersection of Neue Rieser Street and Alte Rieser Street, a traffic sign with signal lights will be installed on March 11, 2025. This installation is part of a city council-initiated project that has been meticulously planned in collaboration with the city utilities.
The new traffic sign is intended to address a confusing junction, aiming to improve traffic flow and enhance safety for the diverse users of the route towards Passau Ries. This route is frequently used by students, disabled adults, seniors, cyclists, and is conveniently located near a bus stop and a cycling and hiking trail.
The installation will involve the digging of trenches for new power distribution boxes, and the traffic sign will be connected to the existing power line, requiring a six-meter exposure for working space. The total cost of the project is estimated to be approximately 18,000 euros.
Mayor Jürgen Dupper, Councillor Evi Buhmann, Patrick Buttinger from Langlebenhof, works department head Markus Weiherer-Steimer, and deputy head Johannes Köberl recently inspected the hazardous location at the start of the project.
The municipal works department and city utilities will collaborate on the implementation of this measure. While the name of the architect or company responsible for the traffic sign installation is not publicly available, it is known that a foundation will be made for the traffic sign, with necessary cables integrated. City utilities will also install and connect the lighting system for the traffic sign.
Enhancing traffic safety is a key concern for the city of Passau. This new installation is just one of many measures aimed at ensuring the safety and convenience of its residents and visitors. As a testament to the city's commitment, a sidewalk on Rittsteiger Street was completed in November 2024.
Construction work on the traffic sign with signal lights at the intersection of Neue Rieser Street and Alte Rieser Street has already commenced. The city looks forward to the positive impact this installation will have on traffic safety in the Schalding district.
