Enhanced Digital Safety Label for Fire Prevention and Security Gadgetry
A new IT security label has been introduced to the market, aiming to provide guidance for consumers when choosing network-enabled safety technology for their homes. The label is associated with smart security products that comply with the recently released PROVE specification 6063: 2025-08, titled "Cybersecurity for Components of Fire Protection and Safety Technology."
Developed by VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH in collaboration with the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), the new specification is intended to address cybersecurity concerns for fire protection and safety technology components. The VDE Testing and Certification Institute, an organization specializing in loss prevention, was responsible for developing the PROVE specification.
The availability of this specification gives manufacturers and suppliers of consumer fire protection and safety components the opportunity to improve the cybersecurity of their products. The specification provides a testing procedure for demonstrating an appropriate cybersecurity level for these components. Companies can apply for the IT security label for smart security products that meet the criteria of PROVE specification 6063.
The IT security label is a tool for establishing a reliable security level in the market for network-enabled safety technology. Sandro Amendola, the head of the Standardization, Certification, and Testing department at BSI, emphasizes the importance of this label, stating that it will contribute to the establishment of a reliable security level in the market for smart home safety technology.
The IT security label is applicable to network-enabled safety technology for homes. It is not a specification itself, but a label for products that meet the criteria of PROVE specification 6063. The new specification was released in August 2025 and is available for free download.
With the increasing reliance on smart technology in homes, the need for robust cybersecurity measures in fire protection and safety technology components has become more important than ever. The new IT security label aims to provide consumers with the confidence they need when choosing smart home safety products, ensuring their homes and families are protected from both physical and cyber threats.
