Enhanced dependability on trains: Prasarana attributes improvements to system upgrades

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, the nation's leading public transport provider, has made significant strides in improving the service performance of its rail operations. The improvements were announced by Amir Hamdan, the president and group CEO of Prasaran Group.

The journey towards enhanced rail services began in the late 1990s with the first application of the MKBF measurement, a primary benchmark for reducing technical disruptions, in the period between 1998 and 2002. Fast forward to the present, and Prasarana recorded a Mean Kilometre Between Failure (MKBF) of 0.54 million kilometres as of July this year, a marked improvement from the 2023 figure of 0.16 million kilometres, which was accompanied by 118 disruptions.

The improvement can be attributed to various strategic initiatives, including the implementation of a Condition-Based Maintenance programme. Among these initiatives, the mid-life refurbishment project for trains on the Ampang Line and the replacement of train and signaling system sub-components for the Kajang Line have played significant roles.

However, it's the hard work of Prasarana's workforce that has been instrumental in these improvements. Managing millions of passenger journeys daily is a trust that Prasarana bears, ensuring the safety and comfort of every commuter.

Despite these advancements, Amir Hamdan has emphasised that Prasarana's next focus will be on improving bus service quality. For updates on rail and bus service performance, including MKBF, passenger journey numbers, and station facilities, visit www.myrapid.com.my.

It's worth noting that as of July this year, Prasarana recorded 24 disruptions for its rail operations. While this is a reduction compared to the 118 disruptions in 2023, Prasarana remains committed to further strengthening its role as a reliable provider of both rail and road transport services.
