Enhanced Blu-ray and SACD enthusiasts can anticipate a host of improvements with Magnetar's unveiled MKII Series universal players.
Magnetar Unveils MKII Series of Universal Media Players
Magnetar, a renowned manufacturer of high-end audio and video equipment, has announced the release of its MKII Series of universal media players. The series includes two models: the flagship UDP900MKII and the UDP800MKII.
The UDP900MKII, scheduled to hit the market through Magnetar's authorized dealer and distributor network in Q4 2025, boasts dual ESS 9038 PRO digital-to-analogue converters, ensuring exceptional audio quality.
On the other hand, the UDP800MKII, which has already been named as the best home theatre disc player for 2025-2026 in the EISA Awards, features precision HDMI jitter correction, enhanced electromagnetic interference shielding, and networking refinements, including Roon Ready certification support.
Both models have undergone significant upgrades. The audio architecture has been improved, and the chassis construction incorporates dual-layer shielding for reduced electromagnetic interference. The chassis of the UDP800MKII has also been sound-dampened to minimise vibration.
The video processing engine has been refreshed across the MKII Series, and the new models feature redesigned USB 3.0 ports with isolated power supplies for improved data transfer. The video engines of the new models have also been improved for smoother video playback.
Newly engineered sound-dampened optical drives ensure quieter operation, while copper wiring upgrades focus on stability and durability. The UDP800MKII incorporates seven OPA1602 operational amplifiers for low-noise, high-precision audio processing.
Improved disc mechanics complete the upgrades in the UDP800MKII, aiming for enhanced reliability and performance. The US pricing for the UDP800MKII is set at $1800, but pricing and specific release dates for the UK and Australia are yet to be confirmed.
