Enger's House of Cultures now enforces a silent environment policy

The House of Cultures on Brand Street in Enger is now officially a breastfeeding-friendly place, marking a significant step towards creating a more inclusive environment for mothers in the district of Herford.

Lina Klostermeyer, the Equal Opportunities Officer of Herford District, and Renata Lleshi from the District Health Department, presented a plaque to the house management, signifying the House of Cultures' commitment to supporting breastfeeding mothers. The breastfeeding corner at the House of Cultures, which has been in use for over three years, is now officially marked.

The House of Cultures, a place of encounter, a space for getting to know each other, and a place for "bridging", has creatively incorporated a breastfeeding corner with a comfortable seating area and shielded privacy. The corner has been decorated by a Ukrainian artist, adding a touch of warmth and comfort to the space.

Any woman who is breastfeeding can use the breastfeeding corner at the House of Cultures. This initiative is part of a larger project launched by the District of Herford, in collaboration with the State Association of Midwives NRW e.V., the Health Department, and the Equal Opportunities Office, aiming to create more breastfeeding-friendly places in the district.

The goal of this project is to make breastfeeding in public easier and more normalized. Institutions such as libraries, catering establishments, pharmacies, or shops are included in the district's plans to establish more breastfeeding-friendly places. Families can view the locations of breastfeeding places in the district of Herford digitally on the GEOPortal.

Renata Lleshi explains that almost any public place can be made breastfeeding-friendly. The district aims to have as many breastfeeding-friendly locations as possible, with other breastfeeding-friendly places soon receiving a logo indicating breastfeeding-friendliness.

Lina Klostermeyer aims to make breastfeeding in public self-evident and a normal part of everyday life. By making these spaces more accessible and welcoming, the district hopes to support mothers and create a more inclusive community.

Currently, the district of Herford has more than ten breastfeeding-friendly places, with the House of Cultures being the latest addition. This initiative is a testament to the district's commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all its residents.
