Engaging hockey match approved for recuperating athletes
On June 4, 2023, a charity ice hockey game was held at the Cologne Arena 2. The event, organised to support the injured personnel of the fire department, police, and rescue services, was attended by numerous dignitaries and emergency services personnel from across the region.
Notable attendees included NRW Interior Minister Herbert Reul, Cologne's city director Andrea Blome, Cologne's police chief Schnabel, Mettmann district administrator Thomas Hendele, Ratingen's fire protection director Harald Filip, and Ratingen fire chief René Schubert. Dr. Miller, the chief of Cologne's fire department, played for Backdraft Cologne in the game.
The game was a close-fought contest between the police team and the fire department team. In the end, Backdraft Cologne emerged victorious with a score of 6:4. The applause from the audience was reserved for the injured emergency services personnel, and many were able to watch the game live, thanks to the streaming service.
The charity action was supported by the Cologne Sharks, and all proceeds will benefit the injured emergency services personnel, their families, and relatives in full. Donations can be made to the Association for the Promotion of Fire Protection in Ratingen e.V. with the reference "Berliner Straße". The account details are: IBAN: DE81 3345 0000 0042 1116 74.
