Encouraging Educational Pursuits for Sustainable Progress
The city of Aschaffenburg has been honoured with the title of "BNE Model Municipality" by the BiNaKom Competence Center. This recognition comes in acknowledgement of the city's successful cooperation within the BNE Model Municipality project, which ran from 2021 to 2025.
The certificate presented honours the successful conclusion of the cooperation and the results achieved. Aschaffenburg's participation in the project involved collaboration with numerous local actors, who worked together to implement a variety of projects and measures to promote education for sustainable development (BNE).
Mayor Jรผrgen Herzing emphasized that the cooperation has provided valuable insights on connecting sustainability and education more strongly. He stated, "We are proud to have been part of this nationwide network of BNE Model Municipalities, and we are committed to further anchoring BNE in our city even after the project period."
Aschaffenburg was part of a network of BNE Model Municipalities across the country from 2021 to 2025. The city's success in the project was not limited to the BNE Model Municipality project alone. In 2024, the Volkshochschule Aschaffenburg and the Verein Migranten fรผr Migranten e.V. were honored with the "National Award - Education for Sustainable Development" from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the German UNESCO Commission.
The Open Days Barcamp event, held in June 2024, brought together actors from education, politics, and civil society within the BNE network Aschaffenburg. This event further showcased the city's commitment to education for sustainable development.
