Encourage Elderly Participation in Strategizing Initiatives
In the heart of Germany, the city of Tecklenburg is seeing a surge of political activity as various parties put forth their visions for the city's future. The CDU, Greens, Volt, SPD, and FDP are all actively engaged in shaping the city's urban development, with a particular focus on accessibility and addressing the needs of its elderly residents.
The CDU is leading the charge in implementing measure 9, the "Program for Unjustified Barrier Poverty," from the Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEC). The party prioritises the needs of senior citizens, aiming to improve barrier-free access, create barrier-free housing options, and expand barrier-free paths, especially in tourist areas.
The Greens, on the other hand, have long advocated for barrier-free access to the spa park and will continue to push for this in the new council. They also support multi-generation housing projects and propose grinding a "rollator track" in the historic old town and upgrading the spa park paths to be barrier-free.
Volt, a relatively new party in the local political scene, is committed to ensuring an exchange and consideration of societal needs by establishing active and regular communication with local citizens in all four districts. They emphasise the importance of making the daily and most important points of contact in Tecklenburg easily accessible, including the stage, the market square, the town hall, the schools, and the supermarket.
The SPD proposes a project-based approach to improve the city center of Tecklenburg, focusing on cobblestone pavement, challenging topography, and adequate lighting. They also advocate for systematically identifying and removing barriers in the city center, including providing more benches, better lighting, safe crossings, and barrier-free access to public buildings.
The FDP, too, is involved in the urban development discourse, advocating for an active, well-integrated senior council that is continuously involved in planning processes, construction projects, and urban development. They also support the formation of self-help groups by seniors in Tecklenburg and their involvement in various activities, including the city council and committees.
It's worth noting that due to Tecklenburg's topography, creating a completely barrier-free city may be limited. However, each party is making efforts to ensure that the city is as accessible as possible for all its residents, especially the elderly.
In the end, the parties' shared goal is to create a city that is inclusive, accessible, and caters to the needs of its citizens, regardless of age or ability. The future of Tecklenburg promises to be one of continued growth and development, with a strong focus on accessibility and urban planning.
