Employees of a gambling vessel in Goa stand accused of physically attacking government officials.

In a shocking turn of events, a clash erupted on the gambling ship, Casino Pride, docked on Goa's Mandovi River, on December 16, 2024. The incident involved government investigators from India's Directorate of Enforcement (ED) who were conducting an official investigation on the ship for money laundering.

According to reports, the casino staff, including casino director Ashok Wadia, Gopal Ramnath Naik, Arati Raja, and other employees, were identified as suspects. The incident took place at around 11:36h, with some staff mistakenly believing the investigators were con men, leading to an argument.

The government investigators, including ED Assistant Director Poluri Chenna Kesava Rao and his team, were allegedly assaulted and confined in a room by the casino staff. The staff also prevented the investigators from continuing their inquiry and, according to the investigators, destroyed evidence.

In a bizarre twist, some of the law enforcement officers and regulatory authorities conducting inspections were also ununiformed during the incident. This fact, when coupled with the confusion created by officers and staff not in uniform, raises questions about the authenticity of their actions.

The formal complaint was filed with the police in Panaji, the capital of Goa. The article in The Goan warns of the risks when investigators aren't in uniform while on duty, as it can create confusion and potentially compromise the integrity of the investigation.

As of the latest update on December 16, 2024, at 11:50h, the situation remains unclear. The police have not yet released a statement regarding the incident, and the casino staff have not been publicly charged.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and accountability in law enforcement, particularly during investigations. The public deserves to know that those enforcing the law are who they claim to be, and that their actions are in the best interests of justice.
