Herdecke Fire Department Successfully Rescues Stray Cat Stuck in Gutter

Yesterday evening, at 20:58, the Herdecke Fire Department was called to the main street of Herdecke for an animal rescue operation. A stray cat had found itself in a gutter on the 2nd floor, leading to concerns for its welfare.

Nine personnel from the Herdecke Fire Department responded to the call, arriving on site with a help and rescue fire engine and a small incident vehicle. The operation, which took place in the rain, was an unusual one, as the cat's return home was blocked by a bird deterrent made of wire.

The bird deterrent was not a standard obstacle in the cat rescue operation, and it was not removed prior to the rescue. Gene-Joy Wagner, the press officer for the Herdecke fire department, explained that the bird deterrent played a role in the cat's inability to find its way home, as food could have potentially been used to lure the cat home, but the bird deterrent obstructed this.

The fire department used portable ladders and repeatedly repositioned them to catch the cat. After a 1.5-hour-long operation, the cat was eventually caught with a net and returned to its owners.

Despite the additional challenge posed by the bird deterrent made of wire, the Herdecke Fire Department was able to successfully complete the cat rescue operation, demonstrating their commitment to the welfare of all creatures in need.
