Emergency kitchen blaze necessitates firefighter intervention

In Hattingen, emergency services were called to a multi-family residence today at 14:12, following a report of a fire. The Fire Department Hattingen, along with protective equipment units Nord, Oberbredenscheid, and Niederwenigern, responded to the incident.

Upon arrival, the residents were already outside the building, and two cats were still inside the affected apartment. The source of the fire was an overheated pot of fat in the kitchen.

A team in heavy breathing apparatus entered the heavily smoked apartment. High-performance fans were used to ventilate and clear the rooms of smoke. The extent of the damage caused by the fire is still unknown.

Fortunately, the residents did not attempt to extinguish the fire with water, which could have caused a fat explosion and more damage. The Mitte fire station was also alerted, in addition to the original professional forces.

After a final inspection, the apartment was handed back to the residents. The exact number of apartments or residents in the multi-family residence was not specified.

No information was provided about the rescue or current status of the two cats that were still inside the apartment throughout the fire incident. Jens Herkstroeter, the press officer for the Fire Department Hattingen, can be contacted for further inquiries. His contact information includes a phone number (0171/2636035) and an email address ([email protected]).
