German Armed Forces Conduct Large-Scale Maritime Disaster Drill in Warnemünde

In a significant display of preparedness, the German Armed Forces conducted a disaster drill as part of the ongoing Marine exercise Quadriga in the western Baltic Sea. The exercise, known as Role2Sea 2025, was based on a simulated accident involving the Bundeswehr ships "Pegnitz" and "Werra" in the region.

The exercise began with the wounded being initially transported to Warnemünde by the support ship "Frankfurt am Main". The "Frankfurt am Main" also provided essential maritime medical care during the operation. Its Sea Rescue Center (RZ See) is equipped with two operating rooms, a dental station, a pharmacy, an X-ray facility, and a ward with more than 40 beds.

The Maritim Incident Response Group Rostock transported the injured soldiers by a federal police helicopter from the "Frankfurt am Main" to the Südstadt Hospital in Rostock. The helicopter journey was crucial in ensuring the swift transfer of the injured to the hospital for further treatment.

The "Frankfurt am Main" later provided medical treatment to the injured soldiers at the Südstadt Hospital in Rostock. The hospital staff, regiment personnel, and the Marine Medical Service worked together seamlessly in this real-life scenario, demonstrating the importance of such exercises in ensuring the smooth interaction of all parties involved.

Admiral Medical Officer Dirk Stölten stated that such exercises are complex and demanding but essential for realistic mission preparation. He emphasised that exercises like Role2Sea 2025 are crucial for the further development of procedures for maritime operations.

The simulation involved around 30 casualties, and the exercises aimed to practice and ensure the interaction of hospital staff, regiment personnel, and the Marine Medical Service in a real-life scenario. The names of the soldiers transported during the emergency evacuation by the Maritime Incident Response Group Rostock on Sunday during the Naval Exercise Quadriga have not been publicly disclosed.

The disaster drill took place in the Baltic Sea, and the exercises are part of the ongoing efforts to ensure the readiness and efficiency of the German Armed Forces in handling maritime emergencies. The exercises underscore the importance of collaboration and coordination between various units in providing effective medical care and rescue operations at sea.
