Emeishan Hosts Record-Breaking 10th World Traditional Wushu Championships in 2025
The 10th World Traditional Wushu Championships took place in Emeishan City, Sichuan Province, from October 16 to 19, 2025. The event drew 5,092 athletes from 54 countries and regions, showcasing both individual and team competitions. Renowned martial artists Jet Li and Wu Jing were honoured for their contributions to promoting Wushu globally. The championships officially opened on October 16 at the Sichuan International Tourism Trade Expo Center. This marked the fourth consecutive time Emeishan City hosted the event, having first welcomed the competition in 2021. That inaugural edition significantly raised the international profile of Emei Wushu, a traditional practice recognised as part of China's intangible cultural heritage.
The city has strengthened its ties to Wushu by establishing the Emei Wushu College and building a system to preserve and develop the art. Emei Wushu itself boasts a history of nearly three thousand years, making it one of China's oldest martial traditions. During the event, Wu Jing was named the new Image Ambassador for the International Wushu Federation (IWUF). Both he and Jet Li received honorary certificates for their long-standing efforts in spreading Wushu worldwide. The championships featured a mix of domestic and international competitors, with events ranging from solo performances to group routines. Emeishan City continues to use Wushu as a bridge for cultural and sporting exchanges, reinforcing its global connections through the discipline.
The 10th World Traditional Wushu Championships concluded after four days of competition, highlighting Emeishan's role in preserving and promoting Emei Wushu.
