Electric Vehicle Yangwang U9 Breaks Speed Record, Clocks 472.41 km/h

The YANGWANG U9 Track Edition, a high-end electric vehicle, has made history by setting a new global electric vehicle top-speed record of 472.41 km/h on August 8, 2025. The record-breaking high-speed test was conducted by German professional driver Marc Basseng on the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg test track in Germany.

At the heart of the YANGWANG U9 Track Edition is the world's first quad-motor system to feature 30,000rpm high-performance motors, as part of the e4 Platform. Each motor delivers peak power of 555kW, with a combined system output exceeding 3,000PS. This incredible power is matched by an astonishing power-to-weight ratio of 1,217PS per tonne.

The e4 Platform's quad-motor independent torque-vectoring system adjusts each wheel's torque at an ultra-high frequency that exceeds 100 times per second. This technology, working in synergy with the DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control System, delivers dual guarantees for vehicle stability and driving safety. The DiSus-X system performs rapid, independent vertical adjustments to the suspension at each corner of the vehicle during aggressive acceleration and cornering, or on uneven surfaces.

The DiSus-X system also suppresses pitch and roll, enhancing driver comfort and confidence, and actively optimises the contact patch between the tyres and the road, maximising grip. To further improve grip, YANGWANG has collaborated with Giti Tire to develop a track-focused semi-slick tyre for improved tyre performance and durability under extreme driving conditions.

The high-performance tyre features optimised compound materials, a bespoke tread design, and an innovative knurling treatment at the wheel-rim interface. The innovative knurling treatment and high-viscosity lubricant minimise relative slippage between the tyre and the rim during hard acceleration or braking. These advancements reduce torque loss and tyre wear, while improving predictability and stability during dynamic manoeuvres.

The YANGWANG U9 Track Edition is built upon the same e4 Platform and DiSus-X core technical architecture as the YANGWANG U9 currently on sale in China. This electric supercar is a testament to BYD's innovation and sustainability commitments, utilising cutting-edge technology to deliver unmatched performance, safety, and driving experience.

Marc Basseng, who previously held the global EV speed record in 2024, stated that the new technologies have made it possible to break his own record. The YANGWANG U9 Track Edition's aerodynamic design, including an enhanced carbon-fiber front splitter, has been verified under ultra-high-speed operating conditions.

In conclusion, the YANGWANG U9 Track Edition is not just a supercar; it is a symbol of technological advancement and a testament to what can be achieved when innovation meets sustainability. Its record-breaking speed and performance redefine the concept of a sustainable supercar, setting a new standard for the electric vehicle industry.
