Electric Mercedes-Benz GLC EQ, competing with iX3, boasts a staggering 435-mile range for long-haul electric trips
Mercedes-Benz Unveils New Electric GLC as Part of Largest Product Offensive
Mercedes-Benz has announced the arrival of its new electric GLC, set to hit the market early next year. The new model continues to be the brand's best-selling car and will be a significant addition to its electric vehicle lineup.
Unlike the EQC, the new GLC EQ does not have its own unique name and styling. Instead, it closely resembles the existing GLC, with a few distinctive features that set it apart. The front of the GLC EQ, for example, boasts a larger and more upright 'Iconic Grille' designed specifically for electric vehicles.
The GLC EQ sits in the premium SUV segment, which CEO Ola Källenius considers as "the most important" to the firm. This segment has been a key focus area for Mercedes-Benz, with the new electric GLC being part of what Källenius calls "the biggest product offensive" in the company's history.
One of the notable changes in the GLC EQ is its extended wheelbase. At 2972mm, it is 80mm longer than the ICE GLC's and nearly 100mm longer than the old EQC's. This decision to stretch the wheelbase was made "because we can", providing extra interior space for free.
The new GLC EQ also uses the new MB.EA bespoke EV platform designed for medium to large cars and features an 800V electrical architecture for fast charging. It runs the latest version of Mercedes' MB.OS infotainment software, ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience.
The new electric GLC shares its title and general design language with the existing combustion-engined GLC. However, it does not repeat the use of the MB.EA bespoke EV platform, the 800V electrical architecture for fast charging, or the use of the latest version of Mercedes' MB.OS infotainment software, as these facts were already mentioned in previous announcements.
The GLC EQ continues to be Mercedes' best-selling car, reflecting the brand's commitment to delivering high-quality electric vehicles that meet the needs and preferences of its customers. The new model is poised to further solidify Mercedes-Benz's position in the electric vehicle market and continue its product offensive in the coming years.
