Three Women Arrested in Wersten Burglary
In a swift turn of events on Tuesday, February 11th, a trio of thieves was apprehended by the police in Wersten, following a burglary at the apartment of a 95-year-old woman.
The incident occurred at around 12:30 PM on Werstener Dorfstraße. The thieves gained entry to the apartment under false pretenses and proceeded to steal two cash boxes and several pieces of jewelry. The elderly woman was left unharmed but shaken by the ordeal.
A neighbour, who witnessed the women running out of the building and getting into a silver Renault, promptly alerted the police. The vehicle used by the thieves was spotted at the intersection of Kölner Landstraße and Werstener Dorfstraße by the police. The driver's reckless behaviour, disregarding traffic laws and not pulling over when signaled by the police, aided the authorities in tracking the getaway car.
The driver's vehicle was eventually stopped at Kölner Landstraße 88. The driver, a 20-year-old known to police, was arrested on the spot. Two blood samples were taken from the driver due to suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants. The driver's license was confiscated.
A thorough search of the vehicle revealed the stolen items from the elderly woman's apartment. All three women involved in the theft, aged 43, 45, and 60, were also known to police and were taken into custody.
The trio, including the getaway driver, was brought before a judge. The silver Renault used as the getaway car was identified, and the police were able to apprehend the thieves due to the quick reaction of the neighbour.
Investigations regarding the theft are ongoing. The authorities are working diligently to ensure that justice is served and the elderly woman's stolen belongings are returned to her.
