Elderly Share Trader Stripped of Pricey Gold Jewelry Worth Over Five Lakhs Near Mulund-Goregaon Road; Police Investigating
In the quiet neighbourhood of Mulund West, a shocking incident occurred on the night of August 27, 2023. Abhay Surendra Metkar, a resident of Runwal Pride on LBS Road, lost valuable gold ornaments worth over ₹5 lakh in a robbery. Metkar, a 56-year-old share market trader, was on his way home in his Toyota Fortuner (MH 03 AV 8008) when the incident took place.
The robbery occurred near a drain in Mulund, and the trio of unidentified men, who arrived on a motorcycle, snatched 102 grams of gold jewelry from Metkar. The loot included two gold rings weighing 17 grams, a gold bracelet weighing 25 grams, and a 60-gram gold chain.
As Metkar stopped his vehicle to relieve himself, one of the robbers threatened him with a sharp object and warned him not to make a sound. The trio then fled towards Amar Nagar, Mulund.
After the robbery, Metkar returned home and narrated the incident to his wife. He later lodged a complaint at the Bhandup Police Station.
Based on the complaint, the Bhandup Police Station is investigating the incident. The police have registered a case under Sections 309(4) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area as part of the investigation.
The police are also reportedly considering several suspects close to Abhay Surendra Metkar in connection with the robbery case, but specific names have not been publicly disclosed.
Prior to the incident, on August 27, Metkar had visited his friend Rajesh Thapar's residence at Kalpataru Crest in Bhandup for Ganpati darshan.
A manhunt has been launched to identify and arrest the accused. The community in Mulund West remains on high alert, hoping for a swift resolution to this distressing incident.
