A resident of Magadan, aged 61, has fallen victim to a phone scam, losing over 5 million rubles. The incident was reported by the press service of the UMVD for Magadan Oblast.

The scam began with a phone call from someone posing as a delivery service employee, who claimed that there was a problem with a package delivery. The victim was asked to dictate an SMS code to receive the package, a move that the UMVD advises against due to the risk of identity theft.

Following this, a second individual, claiming to be a representative of Rosfinmonitoring, contacted the victim. This person claimed that suspicious operations had been detected on the victim's bank account, and convinced the victim to transfer all savings to a so-called "safe account".

The UMVD states that there are no "safe accounts", and emphasizes the importance of caution when dealing with unknown individuals, especially in financial matters. The UMVD's advice also includes not sharing SMS codes and personal data with strangers.

A criminal case has been opened under part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of Russia (fraud) in relation to this scam. However, the persons who aided the perpetrators in Magadan in fraudulently obtaining over 5.62 million rubles have not been publicly identified.

The UMVD's advice serves as a reminder of the risks of sharing sensitive information with unknown individuals. The incident in Magadan underscores the need for vigilance in the face of such scams. The victim, a pensioner from Magadan, has lost a significant amount of money, highlighting the potential consequences of falling for such scams.
