A traffic accident involving a police car occurred at the intersection in front of the Rhein-Sieg District Police Headquarters in Troisdorf on August 30 at 4:45 AM.

The accident involved two vehicles, a Volkswagen Polo driven by a 75-year-old resident of Troisdorf, and a Mercedes Vito, one of which was a police car driven by a 42-year-old officer. The 75-year-old was seriously injured and taken to the hospital, while the two police officers, aged 37 and 42, were also injured and required hospital treatment.

According to the Rhein-Sieg District Police Headquarters, the 75-year-old driver stopped at the intersection after seeing a police car with flashing lights and sirens approaching from Poststraße. After the first police car passed the intersection, he started driving again and collided with the second police car, which was being driven by the 42-year-old officer. The 42-year-old attempted to swerve onto the opposite lane but could not avoid the collision.

The Cologne Police have taken over the accident investigation to ensure neutrality. The further investigation into the cause of the accident will be handled by the Traffic Commission of the Bonn Police, while the local police's traffic department (Verkehrskommissariat) in Troisdorf will conduct the further investigation into the cause of the traffic accident at the intersection.

Both vehicles, with a combined damage of over 10,000 euros, were no longer roadworthy and had to be towed away. The accident site was temporarily closed during the investigation.
