El-Rufai Submits Complaint to PSC, Alleges Police Misbehavior in Kaduna
Former Kaduna Governor Petitions Police Service Commission Over Alleged Misconduct
Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, has petitioned the Police Service Commission (PSC) over alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office by the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State and some officers.
In a petition submitted on September 8, 2025, El-Rufai accuses certain officers of the Kaduna State Police Command of colluding with political thugs. He claims that these officers stood by and watched while he and some opposition politicians were attacked during a meeting in Kaduna on August 30, 2025.
The petition describes the acts as "unlawful and unconstitutional." El-Rufai maintains that the real misconduct lies within the police command itself. He demands an immediate, impartial, and exhaustive investigation from the PSC.
Only a transparent investigation by the Police Service Commission, El-Rufai believes, would restore public confidence. The petition is related to the worsening face-off between El-Rufai and the Kaduna Police Command.
The Kaduna State Police Command has invited El-Rufai and six senior members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for questioning. As of press time, neither the PSC nor the Kaduna Police Command had issued an official response to the petition.
The petition does not publicly disclose the specific names of the accused officers. However, El-Rufai's petition alleges that these officers are being investigated over alleged offences including criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous hurt.
This is not the first time El-Rufai has had a public spat with the Kaduna Police Command. The petition is in response to the worsening face-off between El-Rufai and the Kaduna Police Command. The former governor is acting in his capacity as a citizen, demanding justice and accountability from the PSC.
El-Rufai's petition comes at a time when the Nigerian police force is under scrutiny for its role in political violence and human rights abuses. The PSC, the body responsible for appointing and disciplining senior police officers, has a crucial role to play in restoring public trust in the police force.
As the investigation unfolds, the PSC and the Kaduna State Police Command will need to demonstrate their commitment to transparency, impartiality, and the rule of law. Only then can they hope to restore public confidence and trust.
