EICMA 2024 Unveiling: Hero XPulse 421 Under covers, revealed for public gaze

Indian motorcycle brand Hero is making waves in the world of adventure bikes with its upcoming mid-capacity ADV motorcycle, the XPulse 421. This bike is set to be the first mid-capacity ADV motorcycle from an Indian brand to compete in the prestigious Dakar Rally.

The XPulse 421 is not just a concept but is moving steadily towards production. The design and development of the seat bench and rear cover of the bike have been handled by Herren Motorcycles. The development process has also benefited from the valuable insights of Dakar Rally riders.

Under the hood, the XPulse 421 is powered by a 420 cc, single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, expected to deliver around 43 to 45 bhp. The bike features long travel suspension, spoke wheels, and dual-purpose rubber for superior off-road capabilities. Suspension duties are handled by a USD fork and a monoshock unit.

The XPulse 421 boasts an all-new trellis frame and a slim design with a petite single-piece seat and a narrow tail section. Braking hardware consists of disc brakes and switchable ABS. The bike also features adjustable suspension, although the specifics are currently unknown.

The XPulse 421 made its debut at the 2024 EICMA motorcycle show, following its initial unveiling at Hero's CIT facility in Jaipur back in 2019. Last year, test mules of the XPulse 421 were spotted, indicating that the bike is nearing production.

Rumours of the project being dropped circulated, but they were quickly quashed. The production version of the Hero XPulse 421 is expected to go on sale by late 2025, with an estimated price of around ₹3 lakh (ex-showroom).

In terms of competition, the XPulse 421 will be going head-to-head with the 2025 KTM 390 Adventure R and the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450.

The XPulse 421 showcases a different styling compared to its smaller counterpart, the XPulse 210. It features an angular headlight and sharp DRLs, giving it a more adventurous and robust look.

The XPulse 421's participation in the Dakar Rally marks a significant milestone for Hero and the Indian motorcycle industry as a whole. This mid-capacity ADV motorcycle is poised to redefine the boundaries of what an Indian brand can achieve in the world of adventure bikes.
