Egyptian authorities have temporarily shut down the British Embassy owing to reported security lapses.

In a series of recent events, tensions have escalated between Egypt and the United Kingdom due to issues surrounding embassy security and pro-Palestinian protests.

Last week in London, activist Ahmed Abdelkader Mido was arrested outside the Egyptian embassy, an incident that has sparked a diplomatic row between the two countries. According to reports, Mido's arrest was in response to his involvement in planned protests against Cairo's stance on the ongoing war in Gaza.

Meanwhile, in Egypt, authorities have arrested dozens of activists supporting the Hamas movement, which controls Gaza, for similar reasons. Their demands included the removal of security measures around Western embassies in Cairo, particularly the American and British ones.

In response, the Egyptian government has demanded reciprocity in terms of the security measures around foreign embassies on their territory. The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, stated that the country has the "right to a response and reciprocity" regarding countries that "did not ensure the protection of Egyptian embassies."

This demand has led to the closure of the UK Embassy in Cairo for an undisclosed duration while the consequences are assessed. The embassies in question are located in the heavily fortified Garden City district.

The closure was reportedly due to widespread criticism from Egyptian authorities over UK actions regarding pro-Palestinian protests outside the Egyptian embassy in London. Calls for a tough stance against the UK and other countries are growing in Egypt as protests intensify.

It's worth noting that Egypt has begun training Palestinian security forces for Gaza, a move that could further complicate the already strained relations between Egypt and the UK.

Protests against Cairo's stance on the ongoing war in Gaza have been held near Egyptian embassies in some European countries, including the UK. The National reported on the training of Palestinian security forces for Gaza, which could potentially impact the security situation in the region.

As the situation continues to develop, both countries are expected to navigate this diplomatic crisis with caution, aiming to maintain peaceful relations while addressing their concerns.
