Egypt Unveils Second Edition of National Artificial Intelligence Strategy

Egypt has announced the launch of the Second Edition of its National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy for the years 2025-2030. The strategy, initiated by Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, aims to establish Egypt as a regional leader in AI and an influential global player.

The overarching vision of this strategy is "Inclusive AI to foster Digital Egypt." The core focus is to drive social and economic development, create a digital society, and improve the quality of life for all citizens.

The strategy is divided into six strategic objectives:

  1. Establishing an ethical and responsible AI framework.
  2. Enhancing quality of life through AI.
  3. Ensuring data accessibility and sharing.
  4. Building robust AI infrastructure.
  5. Fostering a healthy AI ecosystem.
  6. Developing local AI talent.

To achieve these objectives, the strategy outlines several key initiatives. The Governance pillar includes creating an AI law and a Center for Responsible AI to ensure ethical AI practices. The Technology pillar aims to develop a national foundational model and leverage large language models for various industries. The Data pillar involves a comprehensive data strategy and open data platforms.

The strategy also aims to increase the number of AI professionals to 30,000 and support the establishment of over 250 successful AI companies in Egypt. AI tools are anticipated to benefit 26% of the workforce, and 36% of the general public will have access to AI-powered products in their daily lives within the next five years.

The ICT sector is projected to contribute 7.7% to Egypt's GDP by 2030. The strategy also highlights Egypt's progress, noting its ranking of 52nd on Tortoise Media's Global AI Index 2024 and a significant jump of 49 spots on the Government AI Readiness Index from 2019 to 2023.

The document emphasises the importance of an inclusive AI approach, stating that the strategy is designed to benefit all segments of society. The strategy's mission is to create an AI industry supported by governance, technology, data, infrastructure, ecosystem, and talents.

In conclusion, the Second Edition of Egypt's National Artificial Intelligence Strategy for 2025-2030 is a comprehensive plan aimed at positioning Egypt as a global leader in AI, driving economic growth, and improving the quality of life for all citizens.
