Eels Charity Drive: Gathering Warm Winter Coats for the Less Fortunate
In the heart of the Ostalb region, a project named "Got a Spare Jacket?" is making a significant difference in the lives of those in need. Organised by Lars Eigenbrodt, a school social worker in Mutlangen, this initiative has been a long-term cooperation with the association Trott-war, which supports the homeless and socially disadvantaged.
The project, which started small but has grown steadily over time, began when Eigenbrodt donated jackets he sorted out from his own wardrobe. Last Saturday, around 600 jackets, 100 sleeping bags and mats, and more than 100 hats were collected. This year, the collection is anticipated to surpass the 1,500 jackets collected last year.
The collection took place at the house of the postal sports club in Aalen. Around 30 additional volunteers are participating, most of whom are from Eigenbrodt's circle of friends. Some regular volunteers help out every year, and Bettina, one of the helpers, expresses a positive sentiment about assisting, stating, "It's a great feeling to help. You're doing something good." She has volunteered for the action twice.
The "Got a spare jacket?" project is not just a one-time event. It is an ongoing action, still accepting donations. Another collection date is planned for October, and the distribution of the collected items will take place in Stuttgart on November 9th, with the items being handed over directly to those in need.
This year, small greeting cards designed by students of the Franziskus Gymnasium in Mutlangen will be distributed along with the jackets, adding a personal touch to the initiative. The distribution day on November 9th is described as the "highlight" of the action by Eigenbrodt.
Eigenbrodt believes that every jacket can significantly improve the living situation of those affected. He was inspired by his awareness of the situation of the homeless in Hamburg and hopes that the project will continue to grow, providing warmth and comfort to those in need throughout the Ostalb region.
Despite the project's success, there is currently no publicly available information about the friends of Lars Eigenbrodt who help collect winter clothing for those in need or the total number of active helpers. However, the impact of this initiative is clear, as it continues to provide essential items to the homeless and socially disadvantaged in the region.
The "Got a spare jacket?" project is a testament to the power of community action and the difference that can be made when people come together to help those in need. If you have a spare jacket, hat, sleeping bag, or mat, consider donating to this worthy cause and making a difference in someone's life.
