Economic Data of China
In a significant contribution to the project "Dealing with a Resurgent China" (DWARC), a team of distinguished scholars and analysts has been shedding light on the complexities of China's interactions with the international economic architecture.
Robin Schindowski, a Research Analyst at the website, specialises in the Chinese economy and is a key figure in this project. With a master's degree in Economics from La Sorbonne in Paris and the University of Paris-Saclay, funded by the German Academic Exchange Service, Robin brings a wealth of knowledge to the table. Robin's master's thesis focused on the impact of patronage networks in the Chinese government on economic outcomes, providing valuable insights into the inner workings of the Chinese economy.
The project also benefits from the expertise of Alicia García Herrero, a Senior Fellow at the same website. Alicia, who is also an Adjunct Professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the Chief Economist for Asia Pacific at Natixis, based in Hong Kong, offers a unique perspective on China's economic activities. Alicia is also an independent Board Member of AGEAS insurance group and serves as a non-resident Senior Fellow at the East Asian Institute (EAI) of the National University Singapore (NUS).
The project received funding from the European Union's HORIZON Research and Innovation Actions, grant agreement number 101061700. The team includes Théo Storella, a Research Analyst specialising in China's political economy, and Jianwei Xu, a Non-resident Fellow at the website, a senior economist at Natixis, Asia Pacific, and a former professor at Beijing Normal University. Jianwei's research mainly focuses on international economics and labor economics, with a particular interest in the Chinese economy. Jianwei has published many papers in academic journals and writes policy articles for the media.
Théo, who holds a bachelor's degree in East-Asian Studies from Wesleyan University and two master's degrees from the London School of Economics and Fudan University in Public Policy, is fluent in English, French, Mandarin, and conversational Spanish. Théo's latest master's dissertation investigated Chinese healthcare initiatives in Africa under the Belt & Road Initiative.
Robin, a native German speaker, is fluent in English and has full working knowledge of French and Mandarin. Between his bachelor's and master's degrees, Robin worked as an industry consultant at Deloitte Consulting in Germany. Robin studied Contemporary Chinese Studies at the University of Tübingen, including semesters at Peking University and Fudan University in Shanghai.
Michal Krystyanczuk, who provides consulting for artificial intelligence projects in various sectors through the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), is another valuable addition to the team.
