ECB Interest Rate Decision Announcement Occurs with DAX Already in Progress, Remaining Unaltered

The German stock exchange opened on Thursday with a mix of top and bottom performers. Linde, Continental, and Henkel are leading the pack as the top performers, while Covestro, Deutsche Bank, and Munich Re are currently struggling at the bottom.

The trading in Frankfurt showed minimal price changes at the start of the day, with the DAX, the German stock exchange index, calculated at around 13,240 points, an increase of 0.02 percent compared to the close of trading on the previous day.

Meanwhile, the European common currency, the euro, tended to be stronger on Thursday morning. One euro was worth 1.1826 US dollars (+0.20 percent).

The focus remains on the European Central Bank (ECB), which is expected to announce its latest interest rate decision at 13:45. The ECB is anticipated to maintain its ultra-loose monetary policy, with a rate hike considered unlikely.

The ECB's decision comes amid a resilient Eurozone economy and inflation near the 2% target. However, the bank is pausing amid uncertainty from US tariffs and evolving economic data. Some foresee potential rate cuts later in the year if economic conditions worsen, but for now, the ECB remains cautious.

President Christine Lagarde has signalled that all options remain open. The trading on the German stock exchange has been active, with Linde, Continental, Henkel, Covestro, Deutsche Bank, and Munich Re being notable movers.
