Accident on Route 3 East Causes Traffic Delays

A dump truck full of dirt overturned at the Main Avenue exit on Thursday morning, causing significant traffic disruptions on Route 3 East, which feeds into the Lincoln Tunnel. The accident also closed the exit ramp to Route 7.

Drivers were detoured at Passaic Avenue onto local roads due to the accident. The exact time for when the eastbound lanes will reopen is not given, but the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has reported that the lanes will remain closed for repaving until Friday night, with the shoulder open for limited traffic.

The NJDOT is responsible for the cleaning work on the grease spill on Route 3 East in Clifton, New Jersey. The spill happened on Wednesday night and, despite previous power washing efforts, has proven difficult to clean. Motorists will only be able to pass through using the far-left shoulder.

Chopper 2 flew over the scene of the dump truck accident, providing aerial footage of the incident. Traffic was also backed up on the westbound side and on the northbound GSP due to the accident. The delays stretched roughly three miles, past the Garden State Parkway.
