EA shuts down The Sims Mobile after seven years of play

EA has announced the shutdown of The Sims Mobile after over seven years. The game's servers will close on 20 January, making it unplayable. Players can no longer spend real money on in-game purchases.

The title will also disappear from the Google Play Store and iOS App Store later today, marking the end of its availability for new downloads. EA thanked the community for their support, creativity, and engagement over the years. Before the shutdown, EA will unlock all Build Mode and Create A Sim items for free on 6 January. This gives players one last chance to access everything the game offers without spending money. Several in-game events, including Christmas and New Year treats, will continue until the closure.

The decision does not affect The Sims 4, which remains fully operational. Meanwhile, EA has hinted at future projects, including Project Rene—a new multiplayer spin-off with cross-platform play. While rumours suggest it could be the next major release for the franchise, official details remain limited.

EA's statement highlighted the passion of The Sims Mobile players, acknowledging their contributions to the game's long run. However, no specific player numbers or monthly active user data were shared, as such figures are not publicly disclosed. The shutdown means The Sims Mobile will no longer be accessible after 20 January. Players still have a short window to enjoy the remaining events and unlocked content. EA's focus now shifts to upcoming projects, including Project Rene, as the franchise continues to evolve.
