Dutch Regulatory Authority Imposes €840,000 Penalty on BlockDance

In the Netherlands, the Dutch gambling regulator, De Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has launched an investigation into BlockDance BV, a company operating illegally in the country without a correct gambling license. The KSA has determined that BlockDance BV was illegally offering games of chance across two different sites: bc.game and bcgame.lu.

The KSA's crackdown on illegal gambling sites is part of a series of measures taken to ensure a fair and safe gambling environment. Many cases date back to before the introduction of a regulated market in 2021. The regulator has been working diligently to deny Dutch gamblers access to unregulated gambling sites, but the stern restrictions are likely to increase their appeal.

Previously, sites such as bc.game and bcgame.lu were made inaccessible to Dutch gamblers following an inspection from the KSA. However, they were later found to be accessible again, leading to the operator, BlockDance BV, now facing penalties.

The potential fine for BlockDance BV increases to €280,000 ($303,858) per week, with a maximum fine of €840,000. The operator has been given four weeks to block all access from the Netherlands, or face the increased penalty.

Dutch gamblers were able to create accounts, make deposits, and gamble on games of chance on the sites bc.game and bcgame.lu. Some operators have faced court challenges to provide refunds to gamblers who lost money on these sites when they were offered before acquiring the relevant license in the Netherlands.

The managing director of BlockDance BV is not publicly disclosed in available sources. The KSA has emphasized its commitment to taking tough action against illegal gambling sites in the Netherlands.

New restrictions have been implemented, limiting Dutch gamblers to a maximum monthly deposit of €700 ($775), with proof of income required for any exception. These measures are part of the KSA's efforts to protect Dutch gamblers and ensure a fair and safe gambling environment.
