The AWO-Aktiv und Community Center in Wersten was bustling with activity on Thursday, February 13. Parents, schoolchildren, and politicians from the SPD, FDP, and Die Linke attended the center, which serves as an "extended living room" for the neighborhood.

The center offers a variety of activities, including a café, gymnastics, crafting, play areas, a bike workshop, and a clothing store. One of the most popular attractions is the animal farm, which houses donkeys, ponies, rabbits, chickens, cats, goats, guinea pigs, and more. Many children from the neighborhood regularly take care of the animals at the farm.

On this particular day, Lisa Schubert (Die Linke) was responsible for brushing the donkey Fina and caring for the ponies, accompanied by children. Christine Rachner, the new FDP candidate, participated in a crafting activity with some girls and learned to make funny masks with various materials.

The politicians were invited to learn about the community's well-being beyond panel discussions. The skills shortage, the burden of bureaucracy, and the situation with temporary workers were discussed during a Q&A session. Adis Selimi (SPD), Lisa Schubert, and Christine Rachner met with representatives of the Welfare League to address these issues.

The bicycle workshop at the center had completed all work before Zanda Marten arrived. She was informed about the workshop's operations and refurbishing process for donated bikes. Zanda Marten, who is running for the federal election in the northern part of Düsseldorf, was also present at the event.

The animal farm remains open even when the meeting place is closed. It is an integral part of the center's offerings, providing a unique and educational experience for the community. The center relies heavily on volunteer work, especially on weekends when paid staff are not present.

The AWO-Aktiv und Community Center in Wersten has been operating for 45 years, providing a welcoming and engaging environment for the community. Information about meeting Düsseldorf candidates for the federal election in person can be found on various events. The center continues to serve as a hub for the community, offering a variety of activities and fostering a sense of togetherness.
