The Oswald Durant Center, a beloved community facility located at 1605 Cameron Street in Old Town, will be closing its doors from Sunday, August 31, until Friday, September 5, for its annual maintenance and cleaning.
This closure will affect all programs, rentals, and public access during this period. The children's play space, which operates from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. throughout the week, will also be unavailable.
The Durant Center is known for its variety of spaces, including a play area for children, four multi-purpose rooms, a grand multipurpose room with a stage, a kitchen, a gallery, and a patio. These spaces are usually open for various activities and events.
The city has issued a statement expressing appreciation for the public's understanding and cooperation during this essential upkeep. The closure is intended to ensure the safety, cleanliness, and welcoming atmosphere of the facility.
It's worth noting that this maintenance and cleaning is an annual event at the Oswald Durant Center. The city has not provided information about which organization is responsible for this upkeep.
Rest assured, the closure will not affect the usual operation of the Durant Center after September 5. The community facility will reopen on September 5, according to the city.
