In the world of home renovations, paint plays a significant role in giving a fresh look to any space. However, with the popularity of DIY projects, a substantial amount of paint goes to waste each year in the UK. Dulux, a leading paint manufacturer, is taking steps to address this issue through its long-standing sponsorship of Community RePaint, a paint redistribution service that has been operating for over 30 years.

Community RePaint is a service that collects unused paint from DIY projects and redistributes it to individuals and community groups across the UK. Last year alone, they redistributed over 366,000 litres of paint, helping to reduce waste and make home renovations more sustainable.

Dulux's research reveals that 50 million litres of paint go to waste each year in the UK. This statistic highlights the need for initiatives like Community RePaint, which not only helps the environment but also provides affordable paint options for those in need.

The service works by accepting donations of unused paint at over 100 donation points located nationwide. These donation points are easily accessible, allowing DIYers to drop off their leftover paint for redistribution. Once the paint is received, it is sorted, stored, and later redistributed at an affordable cost.

One advocate for the service is Sara Hesikova, the Content Editor at the platform since June 2024. Sara, who is also a Platform Certified Expert in Training on Furniture, has been discussing the issue of unfinished paint tins at home. She emphasises the importance of proper sealing to extend the lifespan of paint. This can be achieved by using a rubber mallet (such as the one from Amazon) and plastic wrap (like StorePAK stretch wrap from B&Q).

Prior to focusing on interiors, Sara worked with niche fashion and lifestyle magazines like Glass and Alvar as a writer and editor. She has also worked with various publications, including 91 Magazine, and has done copywriting for luxury bed linen brand Yves Delorme. Sara graduated from London College of Fashion with a bachelor's degree in fashion journalism in 2016.

Community RePaint aims to carry out renovations and upcycles in a sustainable way, and with the support of Dulux and dedicated individuals like Sara Hesikova, it continues to make a positive impact on the environment and the community.

To use the service, find the nearest donation point via the Community RePaint website by entering your postcode. By doing so, you're not only helping the environment but also supporting those in need of affordable paint for their home renovations.

23% of Brits admit to not doing anything with leftover paint, but with initiatives like Community RePaint, there's now a simple solution to this problem. So, next time you're left with unused paint after a DIY project, consider donating it to Community RePaint and help make a difference.
