The homicide squad unexpectedly appears on the movie set. - Due to a charred body, a genuine crime thriller heightening the police investigation.
In the TV show "Funkensommer" (8:15 pm on First channel), a deserted office building bursts into flames. In the aftermath, a wreathed female body is uncovered. Was the blaze intended to conceal a homicide? Was she the perpetrator or a harmful bystander? As detailed in the screenplay, detectives Blohm (Johanna Wokalek) and Eden (Stephan Zinner) are supposed to interrogate witnesses and display pictures of the fire's victim.
To create the corpse, a costume designer and a makeup artist produced a mannequin for the blaze casualty. They photographed the mannequin, but the printer halted functioning due to a strike. In a final-hour scramble, the prop master sought the assistance of the closest copy shop to publish these photos in high-gloss.
Upon seeing the graphic content of the photos, the copy shop workers notified the law enforcement. When the prop master arrived to gather the prints, he encountered detectives from the murder unit! Escorting the TV staff member to a vacant Munich workplace for scenes set in a police station, a tense environment filled the air.
"Five dead serious officers walked in and said, 'The party's over now,'" recalls producer Hamid Baroua (47) regarding this "Police Call." Baroua assumed his arrest was imminent, saying, "I glimpsed the weapons on the belt, thinking: This is it, not me, but the film's end."
The law enforcement sought assurance the fire victim on the pictures wasn't an actual corps, possibly linked to a real murder, or a real fire victim's images would be propagated.
"Those photos looked bafflingly realistic. A significant triumph for our SFX (special effects) experts."
Fortunately, the costume designer had filmed a documentary of the creation of these outrageously convincing fire victim dummy models. The confusion could be swiftly clarified in the backstage area of the TV police station.
Baroua admits, "I reckon the cops had been to more peculiar locations. But after clearing things up, they appreciated it. I envision they still laugh about it now!"
