Dubai Municipality secures global recognition for promoting gender equality and empowering women.
In a significant move towards promoting workplace gender equality and women's empowerment, Dubai Municipality has received the ISO 53800 certification. This prestigious accolade, issued by Global TUV, reinforces the organisation's commitment to equality, merit, and social inclusion.
The ISO 53800 framework provides a comprehensive guideline, originating from Germany-based TUV, covering policies, leadership empowerment, pay equity, and fair organisational practices. The certification underscores Dubai Municipality's leadership in promoting inclusive workplaces and enhancing public service quality.
His Excellency Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, stated that the achievement reflects the UAE's commitment to embedding equality as a social and institutional value. The certification strengthens Dubai Municipality's capacity to attract and retain top talent, fostering innovation and excellence within the organisation.
Azza Al Marzooqi, Director of Human Resources at Dubai Municipality, emphasised that the ISO 53800 certification supports the employee happiness strategy, boosting satisfaction, productivity, and talent retention. The milestone highlights Dubai Municipality's alignment with the UAE's national policies on equality, merit, and social inclusion.
The certification comes at a time when the UAE ranks 7th worldwide and first in the region on the UN Development Programme's 2024 Gender Inequality Index. This achievement underscores the UAE's broader 'Year of Community' initiatives that focus on justice, cohesion, and sustainable development.
The certification was announced on Emirati Women's Day, 28 August, a day that symbolises the UAE's commitment to women's empowerment. The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) received the world's first ISO 53800 certification on the same day, positively influencing its work culture by promoting inclusivity, equal opportunities, and a supportive environment for female employees.
Nasser BuShehab, CEO of the Planning and Governance Sector, described the recognition as a key step in strengthening workplace culture. The certification reinforces Dubai Municipality's leadership in promoting gender equality and women's empowerment, enhancing the organisation's reputation as a beacon of inclusive practices.
The UAE has made a remarkable leap from 49th in 2015 in the rankings, demonstrating the maturity of its governance frameworks and the nation's unwavering dedication to gender equality. This certification is a testament to the UAE's strides towards a more equitable and inclusive society.
