Dubai: Motorist penalized with Dh10,000 fine and temporary loss of driving privileges following an accident involving a car colliding into a beauty salon.
In a recent ruling, the Dubai Court of Misdemeanours and Violations has penalised an unnamed Asian man for his actions resulting in a vehicle collision incident in Al Qusais. The incident occurred in February, and the man's car collided with a beauty center and five other parked vehicles.
The court's verdict underscored the strict stance of Dubai authorities against drug-impaired driving and its potential dangers to public safety. The man acknowledged driving under the influence of methamphetamine, amphetamine, and pregabalin, substances listed under schedules 5 and 8 of the UAE Federal Law on Combating Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances and its amendments.
The police officer noticed unusual behaviour from the driver, who was stammering and showing signs of impairment, despite no detectable alcohol odour. Subsequent tests revealed the presence of the aforementioned substances.
As a result of the court's verdict, the man was fined Dh10,000 and had his driving license suspended for three months. Moreover, he was banned for two years from transferring or depositing money for others without prior approval from the UAE Central Bank in coordination with the Ministry of Interior.
