Dubai delivers approximately Dh3.4 million in humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, following the earthquake

In the aftermath of last week's devastating earthquake in Afghanistan, Dubai has stepped forward to provide critical relief. The disaster, which had a magnitude of 6 and occurred at a shallow depth of 10km (6 miles), has left a tragic toll on the country, with estimates of 2,205 deaths and 3,640 injuries by September 4.

To help those affected, Dubai sent an emergency airlift carrying approximately 84 metric tonnes of essential aid. The airlift, a B747 freighter, departed from Dubai on Monday morning. The value of the aid shipment, which is over $929,500 (Dh3.4 million), included medical supplies, shelter materials, and other emergency relief items.

The relief shipment was organised by the Dubai government in close collaboration with international agencies such as the World Health Organisation (WHO), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (WFP/UNHRD), and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

Giuseppe Saba, CEO and board member of Dubai Humanitarian, played a key role in coordinating with these agencies to assess needs and prioritise the preparation of essential relief items. The mission underscores Dubai's growing role as a global hub for humanitarian preparedness and response.

The aid is expected to help nearly 730,000 people impacted by the disaster. The UAE's enduring commitment to humanitarian action worldwide is demonstrated by this mission, further emphasising its position as a beacon of hope in times of crisis.

The relief aid is expected to be delivered to areas affected by the earthquake in Afghanistan, bringing much-needed relief to the affected communities. This act of kindness and solidarity underscores the power of humanitarian action in bringing people together during difficult times.
