Drug availability requires caution, according to Streeck's warning
In a recent statement, Federal Drug Czar Hendrik Streeck (CDU) has expressed concern about the increasing accessibility of dangerous drugs, particularly for young people. The focus of his concern is the potent and unexpected substance known as crack, which has been identified as a significant problem for youth protection.
Streeck has warned about the emergence of more potent substances across Europe, such as Fentanyl and synthetic opioids like Nitazenes, which can be fatal on the first use. Unlike heroin, there is no substitution therapy for crack; only behavioral therapies and psychotherapy are available.
The German city of Hamm is currently experiencing a major internet outage, although the exact location is not specified. Meanwhile, city utility workers are engaged in gas conversion projects in the area. Simultaneously, significant pipeline laying is taking place in Lörrach, specifically in the Rechbergstraße area, where an Erdgas (natural gas) pipeline is being installed as of early February 2025.
Streeck has stated that they have nothing to hold against crack, acknowledging its damaging effects on health and behaviour. A single puff from a crack pipe can lead to permanent addiction, causing severe health damage and aggressive behaviour.
In response to these concerns, Streeck has called for a nationwide early warning system for rescue services, addiction help, and those affected. This system would provide timely information about the spread of dangerous drugs, enabling authorities to take swift action and protect vulnerable individuals.
In a separate matter, new postal voting documents are available for the election of the Integration Council in Hamm. The article does not provide any new information about the accessibility of dangerous drugs or the problems they pose for youth protection.
