Driver sustains minor injuries after veering off A11 highway between Schmölln and Penkun, landing in a roadside ditch
In a series of unfortunate events, two police officers from the Pasewalk Police Station were injured in a car accident on the A11, as reported by Police Headquarters Neubrandenburg. The accident occurred about 3.5 km before the Penkun exit, and the vehicle came to a stop in the roadside ditch.
The 48-year-old female officer suffered injuries to her legs, head, hands, and upper body, while the 52-year-old male officer sustained minor injuries to his legs and upper body. The driver, a German citizen living in Hamburg, also sustained minor injuries.
The initial accident occurred on May 6, 2024, around 18:05, and a follow-up accident happened during the investigation of the first accident. A 59-year-old driver of a MFTBC Canter truck collided with the police barrier of the first accident. The police patrol car was hit from behind and pushed about 9 meters from its original position. Unfortunately, the car involved in the initial accident was a total loss, with an estimated damage of 1,500 euros.
The A11 was fully closed for accident investigation and cleanup from 15:51 to 18:00. The Brandenburg State Police (Landespolizei Brandenburg) took over the investigation after the car crash near the Werbellin junction following a police chase.
