Dresden seeks proposals for initiating a new landscaping project

In an effort to improve the habitat for insects and address the declining insect populations in the city, Dresden has launched an initiative to create more flower meadows and insect hotels.

The Office for Urban Greenery in Dresden is available to provide advice and support, including with irrigation, for those interested in participating in this initiative. A funding program of 70,000 euros is available to create and equip approximately 1,600 square meters of flower meadows in Dresden.

The initiative is open to proposals from individuals as well as organizations. Fallow areas of at least 100 square meters in the urban area, such as meadows, abandoned areas, path edges, flower strips, and erosion control strips, are being sought for conversion into flower meadows.

To propose a fallow area for conversion into a flower meadow, individuals should contact [email protected] and provide the exact location, size (approximately length/width), and a local contact person. Proposed fallow areas should provide approximately 100 square meters of insect-friendly space in the city of Dresden.

The "Youth - Work - Education" association will be responsible for sowing and installing insect hotels in the identified areas. The creation and maintenance of these flower meadows are intended to halt the loss of insect species in Dresden.

The proposed fallow areas will be evaluated for their suitability for conversion into a flower meadow by experts from the Office for Urban Greenery in Dresden. Suitable locations for the creation of flower meadows include municipal and non-profit facilities, housing cooperatives, care homes, and kindergartens.

The initiative to create more flower meadows and insect hotels is a response to the declining insect populations in Dresden. The city encourages residents to report suitable areas for the creation of these flower meadows.

The initiative is ongoing and accepting proposals for suitable fallow areas within the city of Dresden. For those seeking to register suitable free areas of at least 100 square meters for conversion into flower meadows, it is recommended to contact your local city administration or municipal office responsible for nature conservation or green space management. Specific contacts are not listed, but inquiries can be directed to municipal offices such as the environmental or garden departments in your area.

By creating more flower meadows and insect hotels, Dresden aims to provide a habitat for a variety of insect species and contribute to the conservation of these vital creatures. Join the effort today and help make Dresden a greener and more insect-friendly city.
