Dresden Constructs Housing Units for Refugees
The city of Dresden is making preparations for the arrival of new residents in housing containers, as the influx of migrants shows no signs of abating and is increasing. Six locations across the city will initially be developed for the housing containers, with the first residents expected to move in by January 2023.
The main organization involved in preparing accommodations in Dresden is the company HEROLÉ. This company selects and regularly checks partner hotels and hostels, ensuring suitable conditions for school groups. One such partner is the MEININGER Hotel Dresden Zentrum, which provides modern rooms and amenities specifically for educational groups. Service staff will manage breakfasts and guest services at the housing containers.
The housing containers are expected to be delivered and equipped by mid-October. Each location will accommodate a specific number of residents. Geystraße, Strehlen will be a family location with 144 people, while the location at Windmühlenstraße, Niedersedlitz will house 152 people. Sachsenplatz, Johannstadt will accommodate 72 people, and the location in Industriestraße, Trachau will accommodate 48 people. The locations at Altgorbitzer Ring, Gorbitz and Löwenhainer Straße, Seidnitz will each house 48 people.
To ensure a smooth transition for both the residents and the local community, an open day will be held at each location before the refugees move in. Dresden residents will have the opportunity to get a glimpse of the facilities and talk to migration social workers and home management representatives. Interested Dresden residents will be the first point of contact for any concerns or offers of help from the neighborhood in the future.
By mid-December 2023 at the latest, the locations will be handed over to the state capital of Dresden. The city is committed to providing safe and comfortable accommodations for the new residents, and the housing containers are planned to stay for two years. The city is looking forward to welcoming the new residents and integrating them into the community.
