Dresden Assault with Knives: Second Suspect Surrenders

In a significant development, the suspected perpetrator of a knife attack that took place on a Dresden tram has surrendered to the authorities. The 20-year-old Syrian, who is accused of inflicting cut wounds on an American victim, was apprehended in the Cotta district.

According to police reports, the American's life was never in danger during the incident. The victim, a similarly aged individual, suffered a deep cut wound to the face.

The arrest was welcomed by Saxony's Interior Minister Armin Schuster (CDU) and Justice Minister Constanze Krell (CDU), who commended the collaboration between the public prosecutor's office and the police in the case. Schuster described the arrest as an important and swift success, while Krell praised the urgency and priority given to the investigations by the Dresden Public Prosecutor's Office.

The suspect is to be brought before a judge without delay, and the judge will decide on the execution of custody. It's important to note that at no point was the 21-year-old Syrian, who has been in custody since Tuesday, identified as the main suspect in the knife attack.

The American victim intervened when two men from a group were harassing women in the tram. The 21-year-old Syrian, who was arrested shortly after the crime, was later released due to lack of grounds for custody by the public prosecutor's office.

In a related development, another suspect, a 21-year-old Syrian, has been in custody since Tuesday. However, according to search results, no specific information was found about this individual's involvement in the crime on the night of the offense. The only detention mentioned in relation to this individual is a 32-year-old man arrested on Monday in Berlin for shooting a man in the foot two months ago, and a 31-year-old suspect held in a psychiatric clinic related to a different case.

The suspect is charged with dangerous bodily harm, and the case continues to be under investigation. The public is encouraged to cooperate with the authorities and provide any relevant information that may aid in the ongoing investigations.
