"Dream realized once again": Alcaraz regains top position after a four-set victory against Sinner at the US Open
In a thrilling final at the US Open, Carlos Alcaraz reclaimed the world number one ranking from Jannik Sinner, securing his second US Open crown and sixth Grand Slam title.
The tournament, where both Alcaraz and Sinner have regularly competed against each other in recent months, saw Alcaraz winning the last three editions. The match was played in front of a crowd that was no more than three-quarters full at the start of the game, with showbiz and sports icons like Bruce Springsteen, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Douglas, and Stephen Curry in attendance.
The final was delayed by 30 minutes due to the presence of former US leader Trump. When the match began, Alcaraz started strongly, breaking Sinner in the opening game and again to lead 5-2 before serving out to love. However, Sinner levelled the contest at a set apiece in the second set, creating a tense atmosphere.
In the second set, Alcaraz created a break point, but Sinner hung on and stalled Alcaraz's momentum. The third set saw Alcaraz storming back with another break early on, wriggling out of a tight spot with a sensational baseline smash. He padded his lead with another break and quickly wrapped up the third set.
Sinner fought valiantly in the fourth set, but Alcaraz's determination and skill shone through, securing the victory with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Alcaraz's victory at the US Open extends the longest drought without a successful men's title defence of any Grand Slam in the Open era, ending Sinner's 27-match winning run at hard-court Grand Slams.
With this victory, Alcaraz becomes only the fourth man to win multiple majors on hard courts, grass, and clay after his victory at the US Open. He also improves his record against Sinner to 10-5 overall and 7-1 in their past eight meetings. Alcaraz avenged his lone defeat in a major final by Sinner at Wimbledon in July.
Tighter security measures were in effect due to Trump's attendance at the US Open final, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all spectators. As Alcaraz celebrated his victory, the tennis world looked on in awe, hailing him as one of the most promising players in the sport today.
