In the final match of the second matchday in the new 2. Bundesliga season, Hertha BSC and Karlsruher SC battled it out to a 0-0 draw. Neither team was able to find the back of the net, resulting in a point each.

The game started off with both teams displaying solid defensive performances, keeping the scoreline goalless in the first half. Hertha's Krattenmacher and Kownacki initiated promising attacks, but they were unable to convert their chances into goals.

As the second half began, Hertha increased the pressure and tried to find success through the wings. Despite their efforts, the deadlock remained unbroken. Karlsruhe, on the other hand, became more active in the dying minutes, but they too were unable to capitalise on their opportunities.

The record-breaking moment of the game came in the 68th minute, when 16-year-old Kennet Eichhorn was introduced, making him the youngest player ever to debut in the history of the 2. Bundesliga. Eichhorn's debut, however, did not go unnoticed, as he became the youngest ever player to appear in the 2. Bundesliga when he made his debut on Matchday 2 of the 2023 season against Karlsruhe, at the age of 16 years and 14 days old on July 30, 2023.

Elsewhere on Sunday afternoon, Holstein Kiel and Arminia Bielefeld ended 0:2, while VfL Bochum secured a 2:0 victory over SV 07 Elversberg.

Looking ahead, Hertha BSC will face Preußen Münster in the DFB-Pokal on August 18, while Karlsruher SC will take on Meuselwitz on August 17. Both teams will be hoping to find the back of the net and secure their first win of the season in their next respective matches.
