Downtown Chicago incident: Woman brutally assaulted, suspect with past accusations linked to similar attacks
Chicago Resident Attacked by Repeated Offender William Livingston
In a shocking incident that has left the community on edge, 32-year-old William Livingston, a man with a history of violent attacks against women, has been accused of assaulting Kathleen Miles in downtown Chicago on August 19, 2023.
The attack occurred near Union Station, leaving Miles with several broken bones in her face and a concussion. She was taken to the hospital where her daughter was with her when she regained consciousness. Miles does not remember the incident, but a colleague who was walking with her at the time said a man shoved them apart and hit Miles in the face.
Livingston, who was released from Cook County Jail on July 26, 2023, is no stranger to the justice system. His history of random acts of violence against women goes back eight years. In 2017, he was accused of attacking two women months apart, but both cases were dropped. In 2023, while on parole, he was arrested for hitting a woman in the face on North Michigan Avenue.
In 2022, Livingston was sentenced to five years in prison after prosecutors said he punched and attempted to rob four women within 20 minutes in the Loop. The following year, in 2024, he was sentenced to 100 days in prison after he punched a 15-year-old girl, also on North Michigan Avenue. Livingston had jail credit and pre-trial sentence credit for program participation, which reduced his time in custody.
The Cook County State's Attorney evaluates each case based on the available evidence and the applicable law, and when appropriate, seeks pre-trial detention for dangerous individuals. Livingston's next court date is for Sept. 15 at the Skokie Courthouse.
It is important to note that Livingston has been a recurring suspect in attacks on women and girls in the past. The Chicago Police Department is currently investigating the latest incident.
Kathleen Miles, who works downtown only one day a week, is currently recovering from her injuries. The community hopes that justice will be served and such incidents will be prevented in the future.
