Doubled-up offerings and multiple options available
The city of Hamm is set to embark on an ambitious school construction project, with the aim of modernising and expanding its educational facilities.
In spring 2026, construction will commence on the Open-Government School (OGS) annex at Kettelerschule. The new building will be directly attached to the existing structure, housing the auditorium and administration wing. The OGS annex is estimated to cost approximately 2.5 million euros, with the city of Hamm contributing around 640,000 euros.
Simultaneously, construction of two new sports halls will also begin, planned for spring 2027. These sports halls will be replacement buildings for the existing ones on the respective school grounds, with identical room concept, equipment, and design. Each of the schools, Johannesschule in northern Hamm and Erich-Kästner-Schule in Hamm-Heessen, will receive a new gymnasium.
The costs for the two sports halls are estimated to be around 4.6 million euros each, totaling about 9.2 million euros. The city of Hamm will invest in these projects through Hamm.Invest GmbH. The city is eligible for an 85% subsidy, which amounts to approximately 1.85 million euros.
The new building at Kettelerschule will feature a fully glazed external facade, providing maximum light ingress in the auditorium and cafeteria. It will also boast a new green roof, similar to the sports halls, which will be greened and equipped with photovoltaic systems.
The Kettelerschule will also receive a new annex for the cafeteria and OGS care. Further information about the school construction measures can be found in the service portal.
The completion of the OGS annex at Kettelerschule is planned for 2027. Construction of the sports halls is scheduled to be completed by the start of the 2028/29 school year.
