Greifswald Celebrates 775th Anniversary with a Vibrant Art Exhibition

In August 2025, the historic city of Greifswald will mark its 775th anniversary with a unique art exhibition. The event, which will be hosted by the St. Spiritus Socio-Cultural Center, promises to showcase the creativity and special connection that many people in and around Greifswald have with their hometown.

The exhibition, running from August 21 to September 26, 2025, will feature over 120 exhibits in various techniques such as photos, paintings, drawings, prints, textile and ceramic artworks, and other objects. Submitted by professionals, amateurs, children, and seniors, the exhibition is a testament to the diverse and rich artistic landscape of Greifswald.

The exhibition will be divided into two parts, with one part taking place at St. Spiritus and the other at the Kleine Rathausgalerie. The opening ceremony for the exhibition will take place at 7:00 PM in St. Spiritus on August 20, 2025. Center director Imke Freiberg is thrilled with the number of artworks submitted, indicating a strong creative connection among people in and around Greifswald.

Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to vote for their five favorite pieces. The five winning pieces will be released as a postcard series in November.

In addition to the exhibition, a screen printing action with a Greifswald motif will take place at St. Spiritus from 3:00 to 5:00 PM on September 25. The finissage of the exhibition is scheduled for September 25 at St. Spiritus.

Admission to the exhibition is free, making it accessible to all residents and visitors of Greifswald. The exhibition is a celebration of the city's rich history and vibrant artistic community, and a testament to the creative spirit that continues to thrive in Greifswald today.
