On Wednesday, August 28, 2025, a hazardous situation occurred on Federal Highway 7 towards Kassel at the Ildehausen exit. A roof box detached from a car, scattering debris across the lanes and causing damage to an approaching vehicle.

The incident, which took place at approximately 08:00, was first detected by a civilian patrol from the Financial Control Black Market unit of the Main Customs Office Braunschweig. The customs officer and her colleagues took initial safety measures at the scene and rerouted traffic to the right lane.

The customs officials secured the hazard, and the police subsequently arrived to fully stop traffic and initiate further measures on-site. The occupants of the damaged vehicle appeared to have no personal injuries.

CUSTOMS contacted both vehicle drivers, who pulled over further south. After the cleanup, the driver of the vehicle causing the damage was able to reload his luggage.

Following the incident, traffic resumed its journey after about 20 minutes. The police subsequently reopened the highway. The incident serves as a reminder to ensure all vehicle loads are secure before setting off on a journey.
