The ice hockey world championship begins on Friday. - Does a fresh ice cream folktale exist?

Preliminary round: The German squad kicks off Group B in Ostrava against Slovakia; game starts at 16:20, available on ProSieben, MagentaSport, and Sportdeutschland.TV. Other competitors: USA, France, Latvia, Sweden, Kazakhstan, and promoted Poland. Group A in Prague features the Czech Republic, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain, and Norway.

Gameplay: In the preliminary round, each team plays against every other team. The four highest-ranking teams progress to the quarter-finals, and the last-ranked team in each group is automatically relegated.

Television: ProSieben airs all of Germany's matches and knockout games, free-to-air. MagentaSport also provides coverage of all German matches and knockout games. Sportdeutschland.TV broadcasts the entire World Cup (tournament pass: €24.90). Uwe Krupp, a former national coach, works as a TV expert for ProSieben.

Favorites: Notable contenders include world record champions and defending champions Canada, Sweden, USA, and the Czech Republic. Germany, who finished second last year, could be considered an underdog favorite.

Stars: Sensational Canadian player Connor Bedard, Swedish star Erik Karlsson (Pittsburgh), Czech goalie Petr Mrazek (Chicago Blackhawks), Philipp Grubauer (Seattle Kraken) from Germany, and J.J. Peterka (Buffalo Sabres) forward Nico Sturm (San Jose Sharks).

The German team has a positive outlook. NHL star Lukas Reichel (Chicago Blackhawks) is expected to arrive in Ostrava on Friday, but he won't play until Saturday against the USA. His fast reflexes and goal-scoring prowess may be significant during the tournament.
