In a significant change of leadership, Achim Broetel is set to take over as the President of the District Council of Baden-Württemberg on September 22, 2024. This announcement follows the withdrawal of Joachim Walter from the office in December 2024.

Broetel, a jurist who holds a doctorate, has had a distinguished career in politics and law. Prior to his current role, he served as the landrat of Buchen in the Neckar-Odenwald district, a position he was elected to in 2005. Before his political career, Broetel began his career as a judge.

Joachim Walter, previously the landrat of Tübingen, had been serving as the President of the District Council since an unspecified date. His decision to step down from the role has left the position vacant since December 2024.

The election for the new President of the District Assembly of Baden-Württemberg in the Balingen district on September 22, 2023, is yet to be determined.
