Disruption at Malpensa Airport: An individual sets fire to numerous airport counters, causing mayhem
In an unexpected incident at Terminal 1 of Milan's Malpensa Airport on Thursday morning, a 26-year-old Malian man caused a commotion. The head of the police station investigating the matter is Deputy Commissioner Marco Rossi.
The man, who is legally resident in Italy and does not have a criminal record, reportedly struck counter 13 with a hammer and set it on fire after pouring a flammable liquid on it. A video shared on social media shows a large number of passengers fleeing a fire at the airport's counters.
Fortunately, the evacuation did not affect air traffic, and the affected area was promptly evacuated for a while. Firefighters arrived quickly and extinguished the flames, preventing any significant damages.
Interestingly, the man did not have a boarding pass or appear to be a passenger. The incident was reported by Italian newspaper 'Corriere della sera'. Five people subdued the suspect at the end of the video, before the police arrived to arrest him.
